SILEO® (dexmedetomidine oromucosal gel) is an oromucosal gel formulation of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride indicated for the treatment of canine noise aversion. Dogs experiencing noise aversion are distressed and suffering. They can damage property, injure themselves or escape. The suffering associated with self-inflicted trauma is readily recognized, but the physiological and emotional toll experienced by dogs with less obvious signs of noise aversion is often overlooked. Therefore, it is essential that diagnose occurs early and proper treatment is administered to address the welfare issues associated with noise aversion.

Sileo is provided in a 3 mL syringe at a concentration of 0.1 mg/mL and is administered between the cheek and gum, allowing for transmucosal absorption. Because SILEO® is formulated to provide a low dose of dexmedetomidine, the dog remains calm during the noise event, yet fully functional, and is able to interact normally with the family. By effectively treating noise aversion, Sileo reduces the dog’s suffering and distress and, subsequently, the pet owner’s stress, helping to preserve the human-animal bond.
